Franciszek Rakowski, PhD, Eng.
Assistant ProfessorFranciszek Rakowski, PhD, Eng. is a graduate of the Faculty of Technical Physics and Applied Mathematics at Warsaw University of Technology, where he also defended his doctoral dissertation on molecular dynamics of biological molecules using computer simulations. Part of his doctoral research was conducted at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computational Modelling (ICM) at the University of Warsaw, where he stayed for the following ten years after obtaining his PhD in 2008. During this period, he co-led a project that built the largest system for simulating the spread of epidemics in Poland (2008–2011), while also pursuing his scientific interests in neurocognitivism and artificial intelligence.
In 2018, he joined the R&D division of Samsung Electronics as a Principal Data Scientist, leading projects that developed AI solutions in the field of acoustic intelligence for commercial products. Following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, he returned to ICM UW to address the immediate crisis, taking charge of a team dedicated to forecasting epidemic progression and expanding the methodologies established a decade earlier. The team’s outputs were regularly presented to state decision-makers during briefings with the Ministry of Health and the Chancellery of the Prime Minister.
He served as a member of the COVID-19 Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, a member of the COVID-19 Monitoring and Forecasting Team at the Ministry of Health, and an expert for the Centre for Strategic Analysis at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister. He is the CEO of Simmundi, a company specializing in data analysis and AI algorithm implementation.
He currently works as an Assistant Professor at ICM UW.
