Omics Data Science
Omics Data Science – Bioinformatics and Large-Scale Biomedical Data Analysis
A two-semester postgraduate course offered at ICM UW that meets the growing needs of both the job market and the scientific community for experts in omics data.
The course is dedicated to individuals working in or planning further career development in, among others:
- research and scientific institutes,
- the biotechnology and bioinformatics industry,
- medical diagnostics,
- clinical centers,
- pharmaceutical companies,
- animal and plant genetic evaluation centers.
Program
The program includes an introduction to biomedical data analysis, essential bioinformatics tools, and current challenges in modern genetics. Additionally, students will practically apply the skills gained through hands-on sessions focused on omics data analysis.
Omics Data Science consists of 12 sessions and over 200 hours of practical classes led by outstanding specialists from top scientific and research centers in Poland. The course is divided into two continuously expanded modules:
I. Introduction to High-Throughput Data Analysis
- Introduction to High-Throughput Research in Medicine
- Infrastructure in High-Throughput Research
- Fundamental IT Tools
- Fundamentals of Data Analysis with R
- Fundamentals of Genomic Data Analysis
- Tools used in Biomedical Research and Omics Analysis (Virtualization Systems, Big Data, Deep Learning)
- Essential Databases and Tools for High-Throughput Data Analysis
II. Practical Application of High-Throughput Analyses
- Ethical Aspects of Biomedical High-Throughput Research
- Genomics
- Transcriptomics*
- Epigenomics*
- Metagenomics / Microbiome
- Proteomics
- Metabolomics
*Application of single-cell techniques
The program is conducted using the ICM UW Data Center computing infrastructure. At the same time, we integrate cutting-edge MedTech industry solutions in genomic analysis, enabling students to compare learned IT methods against commercial alternatives.
