How To Improve Biopharmaceutical Research Data Utilization?

In early November 2019, I witnessed firsthand as networking engineers at two supercomputing centers, Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computational Modelling (ICM) – University of Warsaw (Poland) and ASTAR Computational Resource Centre (ACRC, Singapore) used this simple tool (running 5 instances at each end) to measure the available bandwidth of the new Collaboration Asia Europe-1 (CAE-1) 100Gbps link connecting London and Singapore across 12,375 miles. The figure below shows the undersea cable system used by CAE-1. Note that it has profound social impact: for the first time, many countries in the Mid-East, North Africa, and around the India Ocean now have 100Gbps “digital on-ramps” to the rest of the world!

[…] Washington barely edged out Team Warsaw, who finished third. This is the highest placement for a Warsaw team since they started competing back in 2017. They drove their five-node, eight GPU cluster to a LINPACK of 40.43, great job!

Production Trial Shows Global Science Possible with CAE-1 100Gbps link

In early November, A*CRC, ICM, and Zettar conducted a production trial over the newly built Collaboration Asia Europe-1 (CAE-1) 100Gbps link connecting Europe and Singapore.

The CAE-1 link provides shorter, faster, and cheaper connectivity than the links routed via the North Atlantic Ocean, across North America, and across the Pacific Ocean that have carried much of the R&E traffic to date between Europe and Asia Pacific region.
