Dominik Batorski Appointed to the Methods Advisory Board of the European Social Survey

At the beginning of the year, the updated membership of two key advisory bodies within the European Social Survey (ESS) was announced. The ESS is an international research project that monitors the social attitudes and behaviors of populations in over thirty European countries. Dr. hab. Dominik Batorski has joined the Methods Advisory Board (MAB) of the ESS.

The European Social Survey is one of the most significant comparative projects regarding social trends and values in Europe. Operating since 2001 (spanning 12 rounds of measurement), it involves experts from various countries in developing research tools, analyses, and methodological standards. In Poland, the project has been led by the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences since its first round, with support (starting from the 11th round) from the Institute of Sociology at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University and the Institute of Sociology at the University of Łódź.

Dr. hab. Dominik Batorski is a sociologist and data science expert. He serves as an Assistant Professor at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computational Modelling (ICM) at the University of Warsaw, where, alongside his research, he lectures in the Computational Engineering Master’s program. His research focuses on the social and economic consequences of the development of information technology and artificial intelligence.

He also holds advisory roles in public institutions, serving as a member of the Council of the Polish Economic Institute and Chairman of the Council of the Public Opinion Research Center (CBOS). Additionally, he chairs the Program Board of the Data Science Summit and the DSS AI/ML Edition conferences.

Dr. Batorski’s appointment to the ESS Methods Advisory Board means that a Polish expert will influence the development and refinement of the methodology of one of Europe’s key social surveys—including the standardization of tools, measurement procedures, and comparative analyses.
