Jan Malawko, PhD

He holds a degree in Aviation from the Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering at Warsaw University of Technology. He earned his PhD from the Faculty of Transport at Warsaw University of Technology, with a dissertation focused on flight optimization issues.

He possesses extensive expert and managerial experience across airlines, aircraft manufacturers, airports, and civil aviation authorities, both in Poland and internationally. In 2000, he launched the operations of LOT Polish Airlines’ first hub in Warsaw. He implemented the certification process for Polish airports by the Civil Aviation Authority (ULC) based on ICAO standards, and in 2004 initiated the concept of the Central Airport for Poland (now CPK), participating in an interministerial committee to draft the first feasibility study for its establishment. Between 2005 and 2014, during a period of intensive expansion at Warsaw Chopin Airport, he served as Chairman of the RUNWAY SAFETY TEAM.

Currently, he works as an Assistant Professor at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computational Modelling, University of Warsaw (ICM UW), where he leads global aviation research projects. He is an active member of AGIFORS, a prestigious international organization for airline operational research. For two terms, he served on EUROCONTROL’s Performance Review Commission and subsequently joined the European Commission’s Performance Review Body (PRB) as an expert advisor. He is a lecturer and speaker at universities in Poland, the US, China, and Panama, as well as at training centers and international symposiums and conferences organized by ICAO, IATA, EUROCONTROL, ULC, TOR, the FAA, and others.
